Remember that game called "Look and Look Again" in the kids magazine Highlights? Well, here's a chance to play it. (There are two pretty obvious and important changes and two very small ones.)
I "finished" this painting, or so I thought. I took it off the easel, got good photos made, was ready to write its blog post, then... oh, sigh...
I knew better than this. Peppers come with either 3 sections or 4 sections, not half a dozen. I had basically painted a mini pumpkin. Ugh...
Peppers are botanically classified as fruits because they develop from a flower and contain seeds. However, in culinary contexts, they are considered vegetables due to their savory flavor and lack of sweetness.
Since we'd both done paintings with peppers, we just changed our Challenge Topic to "Peppers." All's well that ends well!

Bell peppers do taste sweet to me, which shocks my husband who thinks they are bitter. I mostly associate them with "capsicum" and had forgotten their species was fruit. Whatever they are called, that is a pretty painting.
ReplyDeleteYou taught me a new word. I had to Google "capsicum."
DeleteI knew tomatoes were considered a fruit, but I didn't know peppers were. The things you learn, eh? Nice painting, Helen!
ReplyDeleteThere's a quote: Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is knowing not to put it in your fruit salad. True!
