Fanciful Spring Landscape

This one makes me think I'm walking straight into a scene where there might be some unicorns grazing just on the other side of that rise.

I painted this for my weekly painting challenge.  The theme was "Spring Landscape."  Why do I never paint spring landscapes?  I did some counting and a little math. I've done a little over a hundred paintings that could fit into the category of landscape.  I discovered that I have not treated my seasons equally!
This is what I found:
Summer: 50%
Autumn:  45%
Winter:    10%
Spring:     5%

What?  How did that happen?  I need to keep my camera handy in the coming months and take some pretty spring landscape reference photos.

Thanks to Thanks to Paint with Shiba for a great YouTube tutorial.

Lupine Landscape

Lupines aren't native to my part of the world. Except for seeing them in the children's book Miss Rumphius, I'd never even heard
of lupines until five years ago when we took a trip to Maine. To say we loved it would be an understatement. Of all the places we've visited, Maine is at the top of the list for places we want to return to. One unexpected treat was seeing lupines... everywhere! I fell in love with them.  It's good that we were on vacation and not in a hurry to get anywhere because we stopped for me to take pictures of them many, many times.

I took photos of lupines with the thought that one day I'd use one as a reference for painting.  Sara's Inspiration Image Freedom was just the motivation I needed to finally paint lupines.  I look forward to the day that we'll feel free to travel once again.  Maybe we'll take a trip back to Maine and enjoy the lupines.

Cabin in Greens & Purples

What's the view outside your window?

Do you think the pioneer that built this cabin knew what a fabulous scene would appear on the hillside every year?  Or do you think it was a big surprise that first summer when the purple flowers bloomed?

That thought was what drew me to this image.  It was done as the June challenge for A Day Not Wasted.  Have a look and enjoy the variety of styles... all the same, yet all different.

When we built our house it was summer.  When we moved in it was autumn, and we got the most wonderful surprise with the rich yellows, golds, and reds.  Then when the first spring came, we got an even bigger surprise when we discovered all the dogwoods blooming just outside our back window.
