Caribbean Sunset

What words come to mind?

...Tranquil...
     ...Peaceful...
          ...Calm...
              ...Paradise...
                    ...Serenity...
                         ...Harmony...
If it's the emotion words of feelings that you think of first, then I think I feel successful with this painting.

If it's the objects... water, sun, clouds, leaves, sand... then maybe I better go back and work on it a little more.

I did this piece to submit to the artist challenge at Paint and Draw Together. Go have a look.  It's fun to see the diversity of artist styles. Every piece is exactly alike... and completely different...

Apple Slices II

How often do you say, "We should get together sometime to... (fill in the blank) ?

I've painted this little still life a couple of times before, but I never had as much fun doing it as I did this time.  So often we've said, "We should get together and paint sometime,"  so I decided to just set a date.

We were excited for two weeks!  "After the next faculty meeting! I can't wait!"  We laughed and we painted and we talked and we ate a little pizza and the time flew by.  Most importantly, we set a day for our next paint party... just two faculty meeting days away...

I loved the spirit of
 helping,
asking,
celebrating,
lifting up...
But, we actually did face our canvases and concentrate... (a little).

And EVERYBODY left with a finished masterpiece
That's me, Julie, Holley, and Jolene.
Fourth grade teacher, third grade teacher, art teacher, and tech teacher by day...
Artists for an evening!

Sunday Morning

Sunday morning holds a special place in the week.

When I was growing up, my mother made waffles for breakfast every single Sunday morning. She'd whip up the batter and pour it onto the hot waffle iron. Each of us liked our waffles a certain way - crispy, lightly browned, or barely past white. I liked mine barely past white. First I'd spread them with butter, taking care to make sure a little butter got into every single square. Then came the syrup; at our house it was chocolate syrup. Yes, chocolate. I didn't know that was odd until I became an adult and realized there were people who used something runny called maple syrup!

So, what does my Sunday morning breakfast menu have to do with this still life? The little brown teapot! The chocolate syrup was always served in a little brown teapot just like this one. I call it a teapot, but I'm pretty sure it never held a drop of tea.

This painting was also featured in an Etsy treasury - a collection of unique vintage and artistic pieces celebrating teapots called The Comfort of a Cup of Tea.
