Pink Daisies in the Field

It doesn't matter how many paintings that I've done or what the subject is; I still go through through the same patterns of thought
This one will be fun!
I can do this pretty easily
How is this going to work?
This isn't working.
I'm not sure I'll be able to make this work.
This is a disaster.
Should I scrape the whole thing off and start over?
I've been trough this before. I can do this. Just keep going.
Maybe this is going to come together after all.
Ugh, maybe not.
Let me just step back and look from the other side of the room..
Hmmm.... Niiiice...
Squint.
Pick up the brush and get back to it.
I think I can make this work.
This is starting to look good.
Where should that next brushstroke go?
Guess it's time for a signature.
Good job, Helen.

You can use this narration as you watch this 26 second video of the process.

Sentimental Stargazer Lilies (Mini Version)

My blog friend, Nelvia, asked me to be part of an art exchange.  Of course, I wanted to say no thank you because, well, other artists are so good and... they might be disappointed when they received my art and... Pffftt.. All that insecure artist dribble and nonsense rose directly to the top. But, it was Nelvia, so of course I said yes.

I painted a mini version of the very first painting I ever submitted to Inspiration Collaboration. Then I made a postcard and wrote about myself to a stranger. The note and little artwork went into an envelope and off it went to New Jersey.

A few days later I received a lovely note and an incredibly beautiful little piece of art from that same stranger... my new friend, Carole.

I look forward doing this again this summer.

It makes me happy when a family member wants one of my paintings.

PInk Roses

The thought of painting roses has always intimidated me, so I've avoided them.
Cheri, my art teacher/mentor/friend loves painting roses, and she paints them so beautifully.

She was determined to teach me, so last week I drove to her Oklahoma farm for a lesson.

I believe we were in her studio painting for 16 of our 24 hours together.
Lo, and behold, some roses showed up on our canvases!

Strawberry Girl

Sometimes you just KNOW you're cute!

You can tell that this little sweetie feels like a fairy in her big, fluffy dress!

Mmmm... She is beautiful, isn't she.

Harper, I hope you always know that you that you are lovely. :)

And, because it's fun to see the process...
