Whimsical Santa III

I know!  I know!  It's not even Halloween yet!
I tend to paint what's in season because that's the mood.  That means that whatever in-season picture I paint is finished, dry enough to ship, and ready to go... after the season has passed... sigh...

I thought I'd get this funny little Santa ready in time to hang in our upcoming art show.

You can pretty much count on Pounce to come around whenever it's time to photograph a new painting.  Almost every single time, she decides that the exact perfect spot to sit at that very minute is right in front of the painting.
(Can you relate, Sandra? Her Bella makes regular appearances on her quilting blog.)

A lot of "me" is on this canvas. I love this painting because each part of it represents a special tradition of my family, and I have enjoyed having it on my own wall for a long time. (Look at the date when it was painted!!)

This one makes me so happy, and I'm also just a little bit sad. You see, it sold today.  It goes in the mail to its forever home tomorrow. That does make me really happy.  I hope the new owners treasure it.

Something else makes this sale special. This sale made my 200th Etsy sale!
200!
I am grateful and honored and humbled and not just a little in disbelief that my work hangs on the walls of people across the country.

Merry Christmas!

Whimsical Santa II

Can you "super-size" that?

Sure!

I'm not sure whether the person who requested this is a little behind in being ready for last Christmas season or really ahead for next Christmas season. :)  Either way, he was fun to paint - both times!

The first little Whimsical Santa is still waiting for a home.
Contact me if you're interested in hanging him on your wall.

Whimsical Santa

What's the lesson here?

Tip of the Day: Ya' gotta be brave with the gray if you want to appreciate the white....

I had another painting evening with my teacher friends.  As I was giving out paint dollops for the beard, one friend said, "I want the white, and I guess I'll take a tiny bit of gray, but I think I'll pass on the blue and brown."
"Okay"
.... a while later...
"Why does my beard and fur look so flat?"

I never put my brush on another artist's canvas, but I asked permission, "Do you trust me? You're going to be shocked, but don't be mad."

I took a brush of gray and blue and made a big ole' swipe under his mustache and heard her gasp behind me.
"Now, turn around, walk back a few steps, and look again."
"Oh... my... goodness... It worked!"

Yep, you have to have the drab to enjoy the bright...
... not sure whether that's a painting lesson or a life lesson.
