Pretty Poppies

It will be many weeks before we see bright red flowers growing.

I did see that the daffodil shoots are thinking about making an appearance.  They better wait though, more snow's on the way. It's pretty gray outside these days... and by "pretty" gray, I don't really mean pretty at all.... blah...

Maybe I just needed some bursts of brightness.  I'm finally coming back to life after a week of the flu. (Yes, I had the vaccine.) It's been a long time since I've been so sick, and fatigue is real. It's kind of not fair how long it takes to build up muscle and stamina and how quickly it goes away when you lay around for a week.

Before the bright reds wave in the breeze, we'll have the yellows and purples of March and April first. Then there will be some whites and oranges in May and June.  In the meantime, these pretty poppies can brighten my wall.

  1. This is a gorgeous painting! I love the pops of red on the background, beautiful work.
When I was a child growing up in northeastern Oklahoma (in town, not in our farm house), an older lady next to us grew poppies in her front yard. My friends and I removed the seed pods and pretended they were pepper shakers for our pretend food. I'm sure that lady wanted to scold us for disturbing her garden, but she never did. ;)

    1. Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it. I LOVE that it caused you to think about a memory from long ago! Also, I'm chuckling about the "older lady" next door. Ha ha! She was probably 50!

  2. I had a nasty cold this past week, so I'm feeling for you. I was happy to just take nap after nap. Glad I am on the backside of that. That poppy print is one of my favorites! Hope you are feeling back to 100% soon!

    1. I hope so too. It's been a long week... I did go up, pull out the paints, and put these poppies on the canvas. It was good to feel like doing something... even if I coughed the whole time.
