Lemon Pie

 

I know it's weird, but here's a secret about me... I am not a pie lover.

There. 

I said it.

Apple pie, blueberry pie, blackberry cobbler, peach cobbler, cherry pie... No, thank you.  I'd rather have my fruit fresh.

Chocolate pie, lemon pie... No, thank you.  If one of these is at my place setting, I'll pick at it.

Pecan pie... No, thank you. I like the taste, but I have kind of an allergic reaction to pecans.

Mince pie, sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie... No, thank you. Yuck... I mean, I don't care for any.

However...

Key lime pie... Yes, please.

Coconut pie... Yes please.

My weekly-ish painting challenge this week was "A Whole with Parts."   Any way you slice it, a pie is a whole with parts!

Sweet Iced Tea

Y'all can find all kinds of lists about living in or visiting The South. (Things You Should Know about the South... What Every Southerner Knows... What I Learned When I Moved to the South.... Best Southern Foods... Traditions of the South...) They may all vary just a little, but there's one thing that'll show up on every... single... list... Sweet Iced Tea or Sweet Ice Tea.  And, it'll probably be number one on that list.

Unsweetened tea??? What??? No...

A cup of hot tea??? What??? No...

Y'ain't havin' that!

It's a strange thing when you realize that something that's such a normal part of life is only normal where you live... not in the whole world!  It's like discovering you speak with an accent that you didn't even know you had!

I did this painting in response to Sara's Inspiration Image, Friend for Tea, on this month's Inspiration Collaboration. I wonder... If, no when Sara and I actually meet in person one day, will we each have a cup of hot tea or a glass of iced tea?  I suppose that will depend on where that meeting happens.

Lemons II

Which tubes of paint have to be replaced most often? 

I paint with greens more than any other color.  It isn't really intentional.  I just paint what I know and what I love.  I like to paint things that look natural... landscapes, flowers where they're growing outside, kids engaged in something that holds their attention (often outside).  So that leads to using lots of greens.

I love green.  It's my favorite color, but sometimes I notice those other beautiful paint tubes that don't get squeezed often enough.  That's actually the reason I chose to paint these lemons.  I wanted to play with the yellow color family.  Blue is actually my least favorite color, (I know, I know... most people love blue best!) but it seemed like the perfect complementary color for my lemons.

Lemonade

I painted this as a challenge piece for Artistic Sentiments.  I love the concept of this site - an image is presented then artists are invited to create and share art inspired by that image. It's so interesting to see the diversity in style. The image used for inspiration for this challenge was a painting by Van Gogh called "Still Life with Pitcher and Lemons."

I know that mine is a lot more realistic (less loose and artsy) than his, but it's more me. The goblet and saucer are from my cupboard, and the paisley silk scarf in the background is one I often wear as a wrap.
