Garden Harvest (September 10-15)

I'm only picking every other day now, but it's still filling my little white square cloth each time!
Okra has just about passed its peak.
Cucumbers are finished.
Peppers are beginning to take their turn in the spotlight.
Tomatoes are making a comeback. (I dare not say I've won the war with the squirrels, but maybe I've won a battle.
7 chickens remain as freeloaders. Oh, they all have their excuses... too young, have babies, molting...  Sweet little Twinkle is doing her job and giving me a pretty blue egg every other day.

  1. I have never tasted Okra?! Lovely blend of colors - nature knows her stuff!

    1. What? Never? Is it just a Southern thing? Everybody has okra. Now, personally, I think it's awful. You're not missing anything. Ron loves it. I batter and fry it or sauté it with other vegetables or make gumbo. I have so much frozen this year! He may be having it 3 times a week!

    1. I know! I actually bought a dozen eggs a week ago! Gasp! Eleanor, the molting one, is getting pretty again. She'll lay again soon. Dominique, the momma, will be back to it soon too. The teenagers, Pip and Pauline, are almost old enough to start. It will be a while yet for the babies, Penelope, Foxy, and Fancy-like.

    1. You two just plan a trip to Arkansas. I'll "fix you up a mess of it!"
I enjoy growing it and cooking it. I try to have a bite, but yuck... No, thank you.
